1 Mortal Kombat game series, 1992-2016

No other game series (except perhaps GTA) has caused as much outrage and protests from country authorities as Mortal Kombat. And not without reason – Fatality, Brutality and other finishing opponents in these games are always brutal and excruciating. The main line of games in the series is a fighting game with one-on-one duels. The classic games, as well as their updates were made in 2D. With the release of Mortal Kombat 4 the series goes to 3D. 2 Manhunt, 2003

The game is a stealth horror with third-person action elements. The player has to move through different locations, completing his tasks, which usually boil down to the fact that the player needs to get somewhere, kill someone or get something to further plot progression. To fight enemies, the game provides the ability to hide and sneak up on them.

Massacre of enemies is carried out in two ways: direct contact and silent killing. In the first case it is much more difficult to kill an opponent, because the main combat system is sharpened on stealth kills: the player misses too many blows and cannot hit from too great a distance, however there are moments in the game where the player has to get into a fight or a firefight. Quiet kills are called “executions.” There are three types of executions: fast (white pointer), brutal (yellow) and brutal (red). The longer the attack button is held, the more brutal the execution will be. Each execution differs in both speed and brutality (which is the main point for which so much criticism has fallen on this game). Executions are carried out with a variety of weapons, but only with bladed weapons: firearms will simply be used as intended. Conducting more gruesome executions gets you a higher rating, which affects the content that opens up for the passage, victories in hand-to-hand combat are also given a high score.

Manhunt 2 was released in 2007.

4 Silent Hill Game Series, 1999-2012

The creepy, gothic artistry of the Silent Hill franchise is undeniable, the creators of these games came up with such nightmarish, gory imagery that people still remember these games with horror. Silent Hill is a series of computer games in the survival horror genre. It is one of the most famous and popular horror series in the history of the gaming industry. The early games of the series belong to the brightest representatives of the genre, which to a great extent determined its development.

Most of the games in the series are set in the fictional town of Silent Hill. The series was heavily influenced by horror literature, particularly the psychological horror genre. They stand out among the earlier survivor horror titles because of their colorful, layered storylines and dark, frightening atmosphere and the fact that the characters in the Silent Hill series are not action heroes but ordinary everyday people. In all, over 7 million copies of the game were sold worldwide.

The basis of the Silent Hill concept is what we call the subjectivity of perception.

Another important component of the concept is the idea that any emotion is a kind of energy. Negative emotions have the most powerful psycho-energetic potential. The peculiarity of such energy is its property to be absorbed into space, objects and buildings. In the game, the city of Silent Hill absorbed a huge amount of it, due to the fact that many people suffered and died there over the course of decades for various reasons. This reserve of “dark” power affects everyone who happens to be near the city. And if a person under the influence of the city, keeps in his soul hidden sin – the power accumulated in the city, instantly affects him, and all the fears of man will begin to take conditionally material form, drawing before him the most realistic and most terrible visions.

In different parts of the game we are shown in a variety of ways – visual, aural, musical and otherwise – what forms people’s distorted perceptions can take. This includes the images of in-game “monsters” drawn by the subconscious of the characters, as well as the strange puzzles of the game, which are only fictional obstacles related to the desire of the creator of this subconscious world to limit the freedom of the protagonist.

Only Part 1 and Part 3 are directly related to the story, but the connections and references of the later games to the earlier ones are present throughout the series.

The basis of the game’s universe is the desert city of Silent Hill, which has the property of bringing to life the subconscious dark impulses of people who have fallen within its confines.
